If you’ve ever searched for Ladakh on Google, chances are you’ve already seen photos of Pangong Lake.

The lake became even more popular after the movie 3 Idiots, and today it is one of the most visited places in Ladakh.

But is Pangong really worth visiting?

After spending time in Ladakh and speaking with hundreds of travellers, my answer is yes.

However, there are a few things you should know before planning your trip.

In this guide, I’ll share my experience along with practical information about transportation, accommodation, food, weather, and costs.

Pangong Lake is one of the highest saltwater lakes in the world.

The lake stretches across India and China, although tourists can only visit the Indian side.

What makes Pangong special isn’t just the lake itself.

It’s the journey.

The roads, mountains, changing landscapes, and the feeling of reaching such a remote location make it an unforgettable experience.

Pangong Lake is located approximately 160 KM from Leh.

The drive usually takes:

  • 5 to 7 hours
  • Depending on weather and road conditions
